Why Organic Food

What is Organic Food?

'Organic' means foods and products grown and processed without the use of synthetically produced chemicals such as fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides or pesticides and is free from antibiotics and growth hormones.

Organic products are not genetically engineered or manipulated.

Organic farming places greater emphasis on animal welfare. Animals are treated more humanely; stocking densities are lower which means less stress on the animal and free range is the norm. Certain cruel practices are prohibited (such as beak cutting); animals are not fed any growth-regulating drugs, steroids, hormones or antibiotics.

Organic farming and production is better for the environment. Excessive use of chemicals and modern farming methods have led to a decline in soil fertility and an increase in salinity and blue-green algae in waterways over many years. Organic farmers try to minimise damage to the environment by using sustainable farming practices such as physical weed control and animal/green manure.

What is Biodynamic?

Biodynamic farming is an approach based on the work of Austrian philosopher Rudolf Steiner. In addition to organic practices such as crop rotation and composting, biodynamics uses special plant, animal and mineral preparations and the rhythmic influences of the sun, moon, planets and stars to create a thriving ecosystem.

What is Organic Certification?

Organic certification is when an organic certifying group audits a business? methods to ensure that they comply with national or international standards for organic farming and processing.

Many people have their business certified to reassure wholesalers, retailers and consumers that their produce is organic.

Organic Angels is a certified organic retailer certified by the ACO (no 11125R), giving our customers reassurance of the organic integrity of produce from farm through to being delivered to your door.
